Glenda Cinquegrana Art Consulting is pleased to present Metamorphic Landscapes, an exclusive online viewing room (OVR) dedicated to the young artist Silvia Rosa, now available on our Artsy page. A personal photographic archive sparks Silvia Rosa’s painting, but her process quickly shifts toward a more conceptual approach, leading the image into a progressive lack of references. Natural elements, landscapes, and objects are isolated, digitally manipulated, and eventually broken down into molecular fragments. This is evident in her 2025 works such as Light Taking Root, The Ballad of a Puddle in Love, and A Wandering Puddle.
The result of this de-composing process is a dense, atmospheric, almost liquid painting, where the composition becomes hybrid and unstable. Renaissance skies, Romantic backdrops, classical compositional structures— the painting conveys elements that are to be dissolved into a new equilibrium, where form is always on the verge of slipping away, and every reference to reality is filtered through an extreme blurring process.
Her paintings are mental and emotional collages, where chance and control coexist. Sampled from lived experiences, the colour is no longer used for narrating; it is the meaning, such as an emotional tone, that reshapes our vision of painting.
Rosa’s painterly language is rooted in 1980s Eastern European conceptual painting, particularly referencing the Cluj-Napoca School, which reinterpreted the legacy of Soviet-era painting through a unique vision encompassing portraits, landscapes, and interiors. This approach challenged the traditional separation between figuration and abstraction. At the same time, her inquiry draws nourishment from Surrealism: in her paintings, these fragments of images are metamorphic corpses crossing a threshold into a new dimension.
