“Being in Russia for me means revealing a part of me that on the other side doesn’t exist”. (Davide Monteleone)
Glenda Cinquegrana Art Consulting is glad to present the online show ‘Davide Monteleone | An Overview’ which will be presented online on Artsy Online Viewing Room.
The images presented in Glenda Cinquegrana Art Consulting’s viewing room are dedicated to the award-winning international photographer Davide Monteleone (1974), awarded of the World Press Photo (2007, 2009) and the Carmignac Prize (2014). The photographs’ selection represents a rapid overview of the photographer’s production encompassing the Dusha series shot in 2007 up until 2017, including some pictures from the Imperium series.
Davide Monteleone has built his internationally recognized reputation as a direct eyewitness to contemporary Russia. The photographer’s eye often focuses on new aspects of the country’s way of living, ranging from those related to everyday life, embracing some political, social, and environmental issues, recounting contemporary Russia in all its aspects and its own contradictions.
In this group of photos, there are some shots taken along the line of the “Iron Curtain”, where the gaze splits into diptychs that – embracing – the direct confrontation between East and West, up to the famous shots of Spasibo, one of which depicts the wild mountains of Chechnya. This selection features for the first time ever some images taken from the exquisitely editorial project by the title La linea inesistente (2008), some of which are emotionally intense and captivating.
